The 1856 $1 Indian Head Princess Gold Coin is a classic Type III U.S. gold dollar struck from .900 fine gold. Designed by James B. Longacre, it features the distinctive larger Indian Princess portrait on the obverse and a wreath encircling the denomination on the reverse. The “Slanted 5” variety refers to the style of the date punch used for the numeral 5 in 1856, adding extra collectible interest for variety enthusiasts.
