The Utah ½ Goldback illustrates the virtue Patientia, or endurance. She is depicted as a pioneer woman journeying through Emigration Canyon, the final passage for handcart companies entering the Salt Lake Valley in the mid 1800s. Flying above are western meadowlarks, serving as symbols of hope and guidance. In the foreground, sego lilies bloom as heralds of survival and peace. The UV layer reveals honeybees swarming the lilies, while angels appear beside the pioneers to guide their footsteps along the trial. Along the bottom, the enduring principle reads: “They shall walk and not faint” –- Isaiah 40:31
