The Idaho 1/2 Goldback honors Pietas (Devotion) through the figure of Sacagawea, the Agaidika Shoshone woman born near Lemhi Pass in present-day Idaho. Her life reflects deep devotion to family, homeland, and people, most notably when she helped guide the 1805 expedition across the Rockies after reuniting with her brother and securing horses from the Shoshone. Depicted carrying her infant son, she symbolizes maternal strength and peaceful intent while serving as an interpreter, guide, and trusted advisor. The design features the Bitterroot Mountains, the Lolo Trail, and Idaho state symbols such as white pine, huckleberries, and mountain bluebirds, grounding her story in Idaho’s land and history.
